Apple September Event: Sneak Peek into iPhone 14 Specs and Other Hot Announcements
Without undermining the huge prominence of WWDC that takes center stage in summer, Apple’s September iPhone event has been by far the most awaited tech show for several years. No prizes for guessing, the upcoming Apple event 2022 remains in the spotlight due to the incessant rumors and eye-catching details that keep pouring in making us more curious by the passing hour.
Even though the leaked images of the purported iPhone 14 Series and Apple Watch Series 8 have offered greater insight into what’s lined up, Apple has still managed to keep many key details up its sleeve and ensures that we keep guessing- the game doesn’t get boring even after years.
So, if you are ready to have a close look at the major announcements that are likely to grace the Apple September event, you’ve arrived at the right rumor roundup. With that being said, here is everything you need to know about the Apple September event and a sneak peek into the hottest launches that are breaking the Internet!
Brand New iPhone 14 Series With Upgraded Specs
Apple’s events have the world’s curiosity peaking each year. At every September event, Apple unveils brand new iPhones. Initially, the Cupertino giant used to launch one phone in a year. From 2013 to 2016, the company launched two phones in a year. From 2017 to 2019, the company launched three phones in a year.
However, when the competition became stiff and rivals started to take on iPhones head-on, Apple resorted to unleashing as many as four all-new phones in 2020. Since then the tech giant has stuck to the policy of launching four different iPhones and this trend is most definitely set to follow the same pattern in 2022.
Talking about the specs of iPhone 14 Series, Apple seems to have a herculean amount of effort behind the flagship models such as iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Both the standard variants are likely to be nothing but iterative upgrades.
Design
Due to poor demand, Apple is going to ditch the 5.4″ model called “mini” and introduce a new variant boasting of a mammoth 6.7″ inch screen size. That means we will see two iPhones with 6.1″ screen sizes and two iPhones with 6.7″ screen sizes.
As for the naming scheme, Apple is aiming for a more streamlined naming scheme. Should rumors prove to be true, the forthcoming iPhones will be named as:
- iPhone 14: 6.1″
- iPhone 14 Max: 6.7″
- iPhone 14 Pro: 6.1″
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: 6.7″
Recently, noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that 2022 iPhone models would ditch the notch and adopt a hole-punch style design. However, rather than a single hole-punch design, the iPhone 14 models will feature a pill-shaped cutout and a circular cutout.

“At least some 2022 iPhone models will abandon the notch and switch to a “punch-hole display design” instead, similar to Samsung’s recent high-end Galaxy smartphones, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said today in a research note,” MacRumors.
As per rumors, the circular cutout will include the Face ID dot projector, while the pill-shaped cutout will likely house the selfie camera, Face ID infrared camera, and other important components.
So, what’s the catch here? Sadly, the standard iPhone 14 models will continue to have the old design and feature a notch like older iPhone models.
As per many reliable sources, the iPhone 14 models will boast of a top-notch titanium alloy chassis design. It’s important to note that Apple has already used titanium for the Apple Watch. However, it would be the first time the Cupertino giant will make a titanium iPhone. Now that is something to look out for definitely!
For those uninitiated, Titanium is not only more scratch resistant and stronger than steel and aluminum but also more corrosion resistant. That means the brand-new iPhones will also have a decisive edge over rival smartphones in terms of durability.
ProMotion Display Exclusive for Pro Models
Several buzzes had suggested that all four iPhone 14 models will come with the ProMotion displays, which are designed to refresh rates up to 120Hz. But that is not going to happen either.
Apple will keep the ProMotion display exclusive for the iPhone 14 Pro models. That’s not all, the much-awaited Always-on display technology will also be available only on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
DSLR Killer 48 Megapixel Camera
For the past few years, Apple has bet big on cameras and has gone all out. In more ways than one, this renewed approach has paid off, putting iPhones in an altogether different league. And 2022 will see more of this approach coming into action.
Since the camera bumps are going to be about five percent larger, the cases designed for the iPhone 13 models will most likely not fit the iPhone 14 models. Thus, if you were hoping that your existing iPhone cases will pair well with the upcoming iPhone 14 Series after the upgrade, chances are you would be left disappointed.
What could be an eye-popping feature for shutterbugs, the iPhone 14 is all geared up to get 48-megapixel cameras and 8K video recording capabilities. As you may have already guessed, these camera features will be available only on the Pro models as probably the biggest highlights.
A16 Chip for Pro Models Only
Every time Apple launches an iPhone, you can expect the device to come with an upgraded chip with electric fast speed and efficiency. If rumor mills are to be believed, the standard iPhone 14 models will feature the old A15 chip that came with the iPhone 13 Series last year. The updated A16 chip will be restricted to the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models.
If this speculation translates into reality, it will mark the first time that a new iPhone will come with a year-old chip. To cut down on costs and also deal with the ongoing supply issues, the Cupertino giant is said to take this route.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X65 Chip for Faster Connectivity Speed
All the iPhone 14 models are ready to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X65 chip, the first 10-gigabit 5G modem, that delivers much faster connectivity speed.
Moreover, Apple is also ready to introduce new satellite-based emergency features that will allow iPhone users to send texts in emergency situations. Notably, the satellite-based emergency features will enable users to report accidents even when there is no cellular coverage.
Cooling System to Amp Up High-Octane Gaming
The market is flooded with a number of gaming smartphones. Nevertheless, iPhones are still considered to be the best on the gaming front courtesy of top-notch hardware and fully optimized games.
With the introduction of the iPhone 14 Series, Apple will go head to head against gaming smartphones. The forthcoming iPhone will adopt a vapor chamber thermal system to keep the smartphone cool even after hours of high-octane gaming.
It’s worth pointing out that the VC thermal system will be required for the Pro iPhone 14 models owing to their robust computing power and faster 5G connection speeds.
Many leading Android smartphone makers like Samsung and Razer already use vapor chamber cooling technology to keep a smartphone cool even during heavy usage. As has always been the case, Apple will implement this technology with further enhancements to make the iPhones stand out from the rest. So, it would be interesting to see how well the company executes it.
Battery, Storage, and RAM
There won’t be much change in terms of battery capacity. That means the iPhone 14 will come with 2, 406 mAh, iPhone 14 Pro will be equipped with 3, 227 mAh, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will boast 4, a 352 mAh battery capacity. As for the battery capacity of the iPhone 14 Max, it will be somewhere between 4000 mAh to 4500 mAh.
Storage capacity will also remain the same. That means standard variants will be available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options, while the pro models will come in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
The standard iPhone 14 models will feature 4GB of RAM, whereas the pro variants will come with 6GB of RAM.
Same Old-Fashioned Lightning Port
Earlier rumors mills would go all out to speculate that Apple would soon ditch the Lightning port and adopt USB-C. However, when the tech giant showcased MagSafe and received a fair amount of appreciation for the new technology that allows accessories to seamlessly connect and power up the iPhone, consequently rumors turned their attention towards the “Portless iPhone.” While the portless iPhone is still very much a certainty for the future, Apple wants to hold onto the good old-fashioned Lighting for some time. Therefore, the iPhone 14 Series will have the same old-fashioned Lightning port that we all have seen for ages.
iPhone 14 Launch Date, Color, and Price
If everything goes as per rumors, the iPhone 14 and 14 Max will be available in black, white, blue, purple, and red whereas the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will come in graphite, gold, silver, and purple colors.

Now, comes the biggest question! What will be the price of the iPhone 14 Series? Since there will be no “mini” this year, the starting price of the iPhone 14 will be $799, while the iPhone 14 Max will have a base price of $899. The 6.1″ iPhone 14 Pro will start at $999, whereas the 6.7″ iPhone 14 Pro Max will be available for $1099.
Apple is to hold the iPhone 14 event on September 7. Hence, the iPhone 14 Series will likely be available for pre-order from September 7 and launch within a week.

Apple Watch Series 8
While the September event is touted to be an iPhone event, the Apple Watch has been able to garner a fair amount of attention. Alongside the iPhone 14 Series, Apple is all set to showcase the Apple Watch Series 8 at the rumored September 7 launch.
Design & Display
Expected to be an iterative upgrade, the Apple Watch Series 8 will sport the same design as the Apple Watch Series 7. Not too long ago rumor mills revealed that the upcoming Apple Watch will come with a refreshed design featuring flat edges pretty much in tune with the flat edges of the iPhone 13 and iPad Pro models but they failed to sustain.

The higher-end Apple Watch Series 8 will sport a flat display, but the wearable device won’t have flat edges as rumored before. With the incorporation of the flat front glass display, the smartwatch will have a slightly different look. Unfortunately, the standard Apple Watch Series 8 will continue to feature the same old design as the Series 7 with no changes to the chassis.
Talking about the size options, the top-tier Apple Watch Series 8 model will boast of a five percent larger display. Going by the reports, the smartwatch will have a display size of 1.99 inches diagonally as compared to the 1.901-inch diagonal size of the 45mm Apple Watch Series 7.
Rugged Pro Apple Watch
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has claimed that the larger Apple Watch will be the “Rugged model” that Apple is specifically developing for pro athletes. Equipped with shock-resistant metal titanium alloy chassis, the Rugged Pro Apple Watch is going to be a robust companion for folks who prefer top-of-the-line durability.
“Apple Inc. plans its largest smartwatch display to date, a bigger battery, and a rugged metal casing as part of the upcoming Apple Watch geared toward extreme sports athletes.”
The Rugged Pro model will have approximately 7 percent more screen area than the 45mm Apple Watch Series 7. As for the display resolution, the smartwatch will have 410 x 502 pixels. Apple will take advantage of the extra display area to show more fitness metrics on the Apple Watch face at a glance.
There is no clarity about the battery capacity. However, the flagship Apple Watch Series 8 variant is said to come with a much larger battery
S8 Chip
The Apple Watch Series 8 will come with the S8 chip. Surprisingly, the S8 chip will have the same specifications as the S7 chip, which means there won’t be any major improvements with regard to speed and efficiency.
Low-Power Mode
First introduced on iPhone in iOS 9 (2015), Low Power Mode has long been a super handy feature for extending the battery life. What makes it so useful is the ability to automatically disable power-hungry features like background refresh and automatic downloads. So, it would be great to see the Low Power Mode on Apple Watch.
Apple Watch Series 8 Launch, Price, and Availablity
In terms of pricing, Apple is going to play safe. The tech giant will not change the price of the standard variant. Hence, the Apple Watch 8 will start at $399. Though the higher-end rugged version of the Apple Watch could come at a whopping $900 price point. Due to the high price tag, Apple will ship just one million units of the rugged Apple Watch Series 8 model.
AirPods Pro 2
Rumors about the AirPods Pro 2 have been blowing hot and cold for quite some time. Earlier, Apple’s flagship earbuds were expected to launch in Apple 2021 but that was not to be. Now, the true wireless earbuds are slated to launch alongside the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8.
Design
Some rumors have revealed that the AirPods Pro 2 will sport a stemless design, while a good many have put their money on minor design changes. So, more or less you can expect the upcoming AirPods Pro to look and feel almost the same as the original AirPods Pro.

According to the leaked images, the charging case will feature speaker holes at the bottom and will have a tiny space for a lanyard. Rumors have stated that the speaker holes are for Find My feature that will enable the case to be located even when the earbuds are not placed inside. Interestingly, the case will also play a sound when lost. Now that is surely some respite for all those who go on a manic hunt when their Airpods are lost.
Sensors
Another notable feature worth mentioning is the skin-detect sensors that are similar to the ones found on the third-generation AirPods. Quite a few sketchy rumors have suggested that the new AirPods Pro will be able to detect heart rate or body temperature from within the ear. Should these wild rumors manage to get across the line, we might see Apple’s earbuds will assume a new fitness-centric avatar.

Lossless Audio Support
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that the second-generation AirPods Pro will feature support for Apple Lossless audio (ALAC).
“In a note to investors, Kuo explained that the second-generation AirPods Pro will feature new selling points that will lead to strong demand, including support for Apple Lossless (ALAC) audio and a charging case that users can trigger a sound from to highlight its location,” MacRumors.
The existing AirPods and AirPods Pro models lack the support for Lossless as they play audio using Bluetooth which is limited to the AAC codec. Apple must find a way to directly stream higher quality Apple Lossless Audio files to the AirPods Pro. So, we are expecting Apple to develop an alternative method that will enable true-wireless earbuds to play lossless audio.
Updated H1 Chip
Rumors have it that the AirPods Pro 2 will be powered by the updated HI chip. The custom chip will have several notable enhancements including the SiP packaging system and self-adaptive noise cancellation capabilities. Furthermore, the chip will also deliver better performance and improved battery life.
AirPods Pro 2, Launch, Price, and Availability
AirPods Pro 2 will be available for $249. Faced with cut-throat competition from the likes of Google Pixel Buds and Samsung Galaxy Buds, Apple wants to stick to the gun. While Apple’s flagship earbuds are still comparatively more expensive than rivals, they have got enough to remain ahead of the curve.
After being unveiled at the upcoming Apple event, AirPods Pro 2 will be available for pre-order right away and launch within a week or two.
