Apple Watch Series 5: Top Features, Pricing & Release Date
The brand new Apple Watch Series 5 is the latest wearable release in the Apple’s line-up. It looks sleek, trendy, and is packed with some of the most impressive features you have ever seen. Apple announced this series during its fall event, on September 10, 2019. Some of its newest features are the built-in compass, always-on display, and brand new case model.
Let’s get a detailed and comprehensive look at some of these latest and best features:
Brand new case material
The “Apple Watch Series 5” is debuting with a new case material – titanium.
Ceramic is also one of the case materials that have been continued from the previous generation of the Apple Watch series. The ceramic material comes in only white hue, while the titanium comes in both dark grey and silver colour options.
The ceramic material has a creamy white and smooth texture. So, if you are going for an elegant look to attend a black-tie event, choose this. The titanium looks more rugged and brushed, and is more apt for an edgier and carefree look.
The titanium one has a great brushed look that is very durable and won’t show any fingerprints or scratches. It is a bit lighter than the stainless steel and a bit heavier than the aluminium. So, basically, it has the best of both worlds – optimum weight, great looks, and durability.
Processor with new features
Even though the Apple Watch Series 5 comes with a “64-bit dual-core S5 processor”, same as the Series 4, it has a battery that is 1.4 percent larger than its predecessor, and a new inbuilt display driver and power management chip. This has been done to provide the additional juice for the always-on display and help the watchOS to work faster to overcome the sluggishness of Series 4.
Apple has done an excellent job by adding a compass to the new series, which will make the adventurous users jump up and down in excitement. It has its own gorgeous little dedicated app that is accessible for third-party apps and their developers. You can customize and add more information and features to it from third-party apps.
The compass works even if you don’t have a cellular or Wi-Fi connection. Users can see where they are heading along longitude, latitude, elevation, and incline, by looking at the app.
Note: Magnets can disturb the accuracy of any compass sensor. The Sports Loop, Milanese Loop, and Leather Loop watch bands of Apple use magnetic material or magnets that can interfere with the compass. It has been observed that the compass is not affected by Sport Loop bands or Sport Band version introduced in September 2019.
The compass has been integrated into the Maps app, which has made navigating with the assistance of the Apple Watch, easier than ever, especially when looking for directions in unfamiliar regions. With the addition of the compass, Maps can now tell the particular direction that you are facing. This small addition has made a remarkable impact.
The Apple Watch Series 5’s latest generation now has an internal storage of 32GB rather than 16GB. With increased storage space, you can now download the apps directly from the App store on your Apple Watch, and not be dependent on your iPhone for that purpose anymore. For storing music to listen to on the go and using more than a few apps on the Apple Watch, storage space is going to be a key factor, and 32GB adds a pretty good buffer.
In Apple Watch Series 5, the “LTPO OLED Retina display” introduced in Series 4 will always be on and never turn off. With the “Always-On Display”, you will be able to check your watch any time, without needing to move your wrist.
Apple has worked hard to not only make the display stay on 24/7, but also to drop down the refresh rate to as low as 1Hz, and dim it automatically in the standby mode. These features work on the watch face and go a long way in enhancing the usability of the Apple Watch. Once you have this, it is hard to go back.
Ambient light sensor
The ambient light sensor was always an inherent feature of the Apple Watch that played a pivotal role in its display to be lit perfectly. The ambient light sensor in Series 5 is a new and improved version of the previous one that will help with the “Always-On Retina Display” to be perfectly lit in any environment.
Without the ambient light sensor, you will have to manually adjust the display constantly, to prevent extra dimness or brightness.
International emergency calling
This time around, there is an international emergency calling feature embedded in the cellular Apple Watch Series 5. In case an emergency occurs anywhere in the world, holding and pressing the side button will immediately make a call to the local or regional emergency services.
This thing functions even if your watch does not have a cellular plan active currently.
So, these are the new and vital features that you can expect from the Apple Watch Series 5. Other than these, there are some additional not-so-vital features, like new watch bands and a darker version of the Hermes Model. The new display is the most killer feature in this series that makes it well worth its price and may make you feel strange to go back to the previous models. The pricing for the GPS-only model starts at Rs 40,900. If you are looking for the LTE connected model, it starts at Rs 49,900.
The above-mentioned prices are only for the aluminium models. If you are looking for the titanium, ceramic, or stainless steel model, the pricing can go up to Rs 65,900 to more depending on the options that you choose.
