Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch
For several years, there have been rumours about Apple introducing a fingerprint scanner embedded into the touchscreen. However, the company is yet to give this feature a go-ahead.
At a time where a mask has become the order of the day, Face ID seems to be a huge hindrance as it fails to recognise a masked face. To keep this inconvenience at bay, Apple has rolled out a feature called “Unlock with Apple Watch”. It does exactly what the name suggests.
To make the best of this feature, head to Settings app > Face ID & Passcode. Now, ensure that the toggle in front of the name of your paired Apple Watch located under Unlock with Apple Watch section is turned on.

New Siri Voices
Another notable feature of iOS 14.5 is the new Siri voice. Apple has introduced two new Siri voices (male and female). They have not only enhanced the capability of the virtual assistant but also improved the natural sound. So, can now expect your conversation with Apple’s personal assistant to feel more natural.
Open Settings app on your iPhone > Siri & Search. Now, make sure you have selected the American language. Then, tap on Siri Voice. Next, scroll down to the Voice section and then choose the preferred Siri voice.
Change Default Music
While Apple Music may be a top-notch music-streaming service, several third-party music-streaming services are equally good or are even better. So, if you are not a fan of Apple’s premium music app and have been looking for a way to set third-party music apps such as Spotify and YouTube Music as the default option, you would be glad to know that Apple has finally made it possible.
To change the music app, just activate Siri and ask it to play music. Then, select the preferred music. Going forward, the virtual assistant will always play music via this music-streaming app.

Report Incidents in Apple Maps
Apple Maps has introduced a Waze-like feature that allows iOS users to report traffic accidents, speed checks and hazards. Knowing how pivotal it is to have a prior warning about hazards and accidents, it is a well-thought-out implementation. Do note that the incident reporting feature is also available through CarPlay to let users report hazards safely.

Currently, Apple Maps’ Incident Reporting feature is available only in the US and China mainland.
Revamped Apple Podcasts
After a long wait, Apple has eventually revamped the stock Podcasts app with a handful of neat changes. Apart from the optional paid podcast subscription service, the tech giant has also refined the user interface, making it easier to find, follow and listen to episodes.
To follow a show, all you need to do is just tap on the “+” button at the top right corner of the screen. And if you want to download any episode, tap on the three dots at the top right and choose the Download Episode option.
Bottom Line
As WWDC 2021 is just days away, the entire focus has now shifted towards iOS 15 and what sort of features it will come with. However, the public release of the next iteration of iOS is still a long way away. So, it is a smart strategy to keep users excited with a flurry of all-new features.
